‘Nicki Minaj Pink Friday’

After reviewing Nicki Minaj’s second M.A.C collaboration, then doing pink nails, I thought it was only appropriate that we move on to her perfume, ‘Pink Friday’. Normally I don’t go for celebrity fragrances as I find them to be quite sweet and generic and although ‘Pink Friday’ is enveloped in sweetness, I was surprised at how much depth there is to it.

When you first spray the perfume you can detect a sharp juicy sweetness which slowly subsides to a deep musky sensual scent. With top notes of Italian Mandarin and Boysenberry and undertones of Caramelised Pear fused with Vanilla, this fragrance is a real treat for floral wearers. Just like the hip-hop queen herself, this perfume does not shy away from the limelight but lingers on the skin for several hours.

The packaging is très Nicki, loud, colourful but tailored at the same time. I am not too keen on the plastic ‘Nicki’ bottle head cap as its bulky feel reduces the luxurious element of the casing. I find that the blue geometric lines on the bust complement the flamboyant face design and the elegant silhouette is reminiscent of the Jean Paul Gaultier perfumes.

‘Pink Friday’ embodies the fiery, uncompromising and confident side of Nicki to its fullest but there is a beautiful delicacy present in the mysterious woody and floral components.

From the scent, to the bottle design, you can tell that a lot of thought has gone into the conception of ‘Pink Friday’ which makes it stand out as a celebrity fragrance for me. It does not feel like a common product that a celebrity has plastered their name on, it rather embodies the various personae of the ‘creator’ herself.

‘Laugh with me LeeLee’

Laughter, its infectious isn’t it? It is irresistible, spontaneous and it’s one of the most beautiful things to see as it radiates a glow from within. So how does one go about capturing it? Benefit has the answer. Their range of fragrance includes a nice little woody number called ‘Laugh with me LeeLee’.

Every now and again my perfume stash gets a little shake up as I like to rotate the scents that I wear to keep things fresh and lively. Recently I went on the hunt to find a perfume that would be light and crisp to wear during the summer months but still have an edgy charm. I accidentally meandered to a Benefit counter and found the perfect fit, I found ‘LeeLee’. It comes in a beautiful golden canister which is sheathed in an abstract floral pattern. Although it’s a woody fragrance it is not overpowering at all but rather subtle, sweet and fruity. It reminds me of ‘DKNY Be Delicious’ but a much more playful and honeyed version.

The perfume’s top notes consist of : Cassis, Melon, Citrus.

With middle notes of: Black violet, Lily, Jasmine.

And bottom notes of: Blonde Wood, Amber, Santal.

I have been reaching for this fragrance on numerous occasions as it is so uplifting. In addition, ‘Laugh with me LeeLee’ is very versatile as you can easily wear it from day to night. The wear time of this perfume is pretty good too as I have noticed the smell staying intact for several hours. While the bottle is attractive I tend to prefer transparent/opaque designs so I can see how much is inside but with a delightful scent like this it’s not a major issue.
